There is work, there is a sense that one needs a mental break from the current problems of the world and then there’s also the realization of what the day is.
Perspectives may differ but I find the Pentagon memorial to be a striking and moving design:
I’ve read mentions about how the two designers behind it were inspired in part by Maya Lin’s legendary Vietnam memorial, and the memory of seeing it in 1983 the first time I visited DC remains vivid. This, in a much different way, is no less captivating.
Meantime, the legendary Alex in NYC has posted today remembering the friend he lost at the WTC.
Later today I will revisit the perhaps too melodramatic promise I made to myself shortly after the day itself and play Arvo Part’s “Cantus.”
And life will continue.
